About me
Riata Brown was born, raised, and wed in the high deserts and ranches of northeastern Nevada. Growing up in a family steeped in music and cowboy culture, Riata learned to sing and play alongside her father Larry Schutte, one of the original performers at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. For much of her life, Elko was Riata’s home. Now residing in Richland, Oregon, she and her husband Jake Brown manage his family’s cattle ranch. Reflecting on her music, Riata says, “God has blessed me with wide open spaces and a voice to sing about it, so to Him will I sing.”
