About me
As a young girl, long hours spent on horseback herding cattle stirred Marleen Bussma’s imagination and sparked a desire to emulate Dale Evans. Marleen, described as a formidable storyteller, draws from the lessons she learned growing up on her North Dakota farm. She believes that hard work on the homestead is the most honest way to spend one's days and it has nurtured values in her that have endured throughout her lifetime. Her acclaimed poetry captures the plight of women of the West, from frontier days to modern farm and ranch times. And, she writes about the rancher as he works and worries, hoping to make it through another year. Marleen is the Poet Laureate for Saddlebag Dispatches magazine
