About me
Lone Piñon is a New Mexican string band, or orquesta típica, whose music celebrates the integrity and diversity of their region’s multicultural and rural roots. The group spurs creativity around the oldest sounds of the region's traditional string music, which had all but disappeared from Northern New Mexico communities. Lone Piñon have brought the language of the orquesta típica back to present-day audiences through close relationships with elders, a careful study of field recordings, bilingual vocals, connections to other traditional music and dance revitalization movements in North America, and local and national performances. Lone Piñon consists of band members Tanya Nuñez (upright bass), Santiago Romero (guitar, vihuela), Jordan Wax (fiddle, guitar, accordion), and Karina Wilson (fiddle).
