About me
Born and raised in rough-and-rugged northern Nevada, Chaz Mitchell grew up cowboying alongside his father, the well-known cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell. Known for making custom hats that express the personality of the owner, Chaz built his first hat during a workshop at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Though he spent time rodeoing and showing horses, he eventually found himself back in the workroom. Chaz’ years of study have led to a fulltime pursuit of his art, making custom hats along with his wife Erin for both cowboys and cowboys at heart. While hatmaking is his preferred artform, he also picked up a thing or two spending his formative years around cowboy poets and occasionally recites a verse or two himself. Chaz serves as a member of the Western Folklife Center Board of Trustees.
